Our Saving Grace
The word "gospel" simply means good news. For some people good news would be a new job, a raise, or a new car. For others good news would be marriage, the birth of a child, or the restoring of a broken relationship. Good news might mean something different for each of us.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is God’s "good news" to all people, people of all ethnic backgrounds. This message actually has a bad and a good part. The bad is that even though we have been created in the image of God and even though we do some good things, we have still sinned against a holy and perfectly righteous God. Unfortunately, there is nothing a person can do to deserve God’s forgiveness and thus all are under His judgment.
But the good news is that God loved all people so much that he did not want to condemn anyone. Since his justice demands payment for all wrongs committed against Him, he chose to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment for our sins. Jesus Christ lived a perfect life and became the perfect sacrifice for the sins of every person who has ever or will ever live. The good news continues by revealing to us that all a person must do to receive complete forgiveness for their sin and to receive the free gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ is to believe. That is, a person must place their complete trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. There are no good deeds that one must do or can do to receive this wonderful gift of salvation and eternal life. Jesus Christ did not come to start a new religion. Religious activity cannot make one righteous before God. Jesus Christ came to give life through his death, shed blood, and glorious resurrection.
